Steam Emulator 3.0.0 is coming
A rebuilt in-game overlay with achievements and screenshots, LAN rooms that replace Hamachi and Radmin, and full DualSense support. Here's everything coming in 3.0.0.
GameBounty Team
3.0.0 is the biggest update the emulator has ever had. We rebuilt the in-game overlay, added LAN rooms so you can play together without a VPN, and added proper controller support, including DualSense.
Overlay
The emulator always had an overlay, but it was pretty basic. For 3.0.0 we rebuilt it from scratch.
Press Alt + A or the PS / Xbox button on your controller to open it. You can change the shortcut in Settings.
It has four pages: Achievements, Screenshots, LAN and Settings. You can move around it with your mouse, keyboard or controller.
Achievements
You can see every achievement in the game, how rare it is and when you got it. Some show progress too, like 7 / 10. Hidden ones stay hidden until you unlock them.
- Filter by All, Unlocked or Locked
- Sort by Rarity, Recently unlocked, Closest to unlock or Name
- Your playtime shows at the top
While you play, small pop-ups tell you when you unlock something or make progress.
Screenshots
Press F12 to take a screenshot. You can look through them, copy one to send to a friend, or open the folder, all without leaving the game.
Settings
There's a new Settings page:
| Section | What you can change |
|---|---|
| Overlay | Open shortcut, opening with a controller, notification volume, playtime tracking, Glass or Solid theme |
| Screenshots | Capture key and where screenshots are saved |
| Notifications | Turn each kind of pop-up on or off |
| Controllers | Your controllers, how they feel, and button mapping |
| Network | Your display name and LAN server |
| Data | Your save data |
LAN rooms
You can now play together over LAN in our new releases, straight from the overlay. No more Hamachi or Radmin VPN.
- Create a room. You get a 12-character code.
- Share the code. Up to 16 players can join.
- Host or join in game. Use the game's own LAN or local multiplayer menu, like you would on a real home network.
Nothing to install and no drivers. You can change your name in Settings, and you can even run your own server.
Controllers
Controllers used to run on XInput, Microsoft's controller system that was made for Xbox pads. It barely worked with DualSense: haptics almost never worked, and in some games the controller didn't work at all.
For 3.0.0 we switched to SDL3, with some of our own changes on top. It handles pretty much every controller out there, and it's the closest thing to Steam Input without needing Steam.
DualSense
DualSense works with a cable or over Bluetooth, and you can see its battery. Xbox, DualShock 4, Switch Pro, Steam Deck and other controllers work too.
If a game only supports Xbox controllers, your controller can pretend to be one.
Haptics
If a game supports vibration, haptics or adaptive triggers, they now actually work. You can change how strong the vibration is, and turn haptics, adaptive triggers and the player light on or off. Steam Input games also get stick deadzone, camera speed and gyro aiming.
Button mapping
Change what any button does, or switch to Nintendo-style face buttons. One click puts everything back to normal.
Battery alerts
The overlay can tell you when a controller connects, when its battery is low, and when it's fully charged.
Why it took so long
An overlay has to draw on top of someone else's game. That means working with six different graphics APIs (DirectX 9, 10, 11, 12, OpenGL and Vulkan), handling your mouse, keyboard and controller without breaking the game, and not slowing anything down. It's really hard to get right, and we wanted it stable before shipping it.
Thank you
A huge thank you to Lumisere for building LAN, suggesting most of these changes and supporting this whole update from start to finish.
And thank you to everyone who has been with GameBounty all along. We love you <3
